Hunza Caps - Pride of Women in Gilgit Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan has a rich and varied cultural history. The region’s vibrant cultural heritage can be seen in local traditions, local festivals, music, and traditional costumes. A remarkable cultural legacy drew people from all over the world.
Hunza is a mountain valley in the Gilgit-Baltistan district of Pakistan. It is located northwest of the Hunza River, at an altitude of about 2,500 meters (8,200 ft). Hunza valley is famous for women’s handicrafts which includes traditional caps, costumes, jewelry and many more. Traditional caps of Hunza are pride of women.

There are different styles of Hunza caps like some are made up of silk threadwork, some are made up of velvet and some are made up of wool." Let us have a look at caps of Hunza one by one.




Handmade silk thread cap:

It is the traditional bridal headwear of the Hunza region. Silk threadwork is used to make these caps. They are mostly in bright colors like pink, yellow, green, purple, red and maroon. Mostly there are combination of these colors on caps. It also comes with mattha patti which is known as jewelry headwear and it is type of jewelry wore on forehead.



Handmade velvet cap:

With time, there were many changes made to the caps. Velvet handmade caps are most elegant and modern caps for women. They are purely made up of velvet with hand embroidery headband is attached to the base material of the cap. They are available in different beautiful colors. These handmade caps are best for winters. It protects you from cold as the material used in these caps is velvet.
